What does SceneThread do?

It turns your brand films into videos people can shop. As a runway show, lookbook or campaign film plays, the products on screen appear beside it with their prices. Shoppers add them to their cart without leaving the video.

Do I have to tag every product myself?

No. Upload the film and SceneThread finds your products in it by comparing each moment with your product photos. You check what it found and approve what's right. You can still add, move or remove any moment by hand.

What kind of videos work best?

Videos where your products are easy to see: runway shows, lookbooks, campaign films and product videos. Your products need clear photos, since that's how SceneThread recognizes them.

How long does it take?

A few minutes for most films. A two-minute film takes about three. You can watch it work, section by section, while you wait.

How accurate is it?

It's good at spotting your products, but it can mix up items that look nearly the same. That's why nothing reaches shoppers until you approve it. Moments it's less sure about are marked so you know where to look.

Do I need a developer?

No. On Shopify there's no code at all. On other platforms, you paste one piece of code onto your page, the same way you'd add a YouTube video.

Stuck on any step, or want shoppers to add to cart right from the video on your own site? Email support@ponerian.com and we'll set it up with you.

Can you build a fully custom player for us?

Yes. If the built-in layouts aren't quite right, we'll build a player made for your brand: your own design, layout, interactions or integrations. We can tailor it to almost any request.

I use Shopify

How do I get started?
  1. Install SceneThread and open it from your Shopify admin.
  2. Choose a plan. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.
  3. Upload a film. Your products are already synced from Shopify.
  4. Check each moment, then click Make active.
  5. Add the SceneThread film block to a page in your theme editor.
How do I put a film on a page?

On the film's page in SceneThread, click Open theme editor. Add the SceneThread film block where you want it, choose your film in the block's settings, and save. It works with any Online Store 2.0 theme, which includes almost every theme made since 2021.

Can I change how it looks?

Yes, in the theme editor. Move, float or hide the product panel, pick a separate layout for phones, turn on a mini player for scrolling, change the timeline style, choose what shows, turn on autoplay, and set colors and fonts. Each page can look different.

Will it slow down my store?

The video plays from Shopify, like any video on your store. The space for the player is saved before it loads, so the page doesn't jump around.

How does checkout work?

Products go into your normal Shopify cart, and shoppers check out the usual way. SceneThread adds no fees and no extra products.

What happens if I uninstall?

Films disappear from your store and billing stops. When Shopify asks us to, we delete your store's data, videos and files.

I use another platform

Does it work with WordPress, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix or Squarespace?

Yes. It works on any site where you can paste a bit of HTML, including a site your team built. You add your products, upload a film, then paste the embed code onto your page.

How do I add my products?

On your store page in SceneThread, paste your product feed link or upload a product file. If you use a feed link, we check it every day, so new products show up on their own.

What's a product feed, and where do I find mine?

It's a list of your products that your store keeps up to date, usually made for Google Shopping. WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix and Squarespace can all make one, often with a free app or plugin. Copy the feed's link and paste it into SceneThread.

What should a product file look like?

A spreadsheet saved as CSV with these columns: id, title, link, image_link and price. Sizes or colors of the same product can share an item_group_id column so they become one product.

Where do I paste the embed code?

Copy it from the film's page in SceneThread. In WordPress, add a Custom HTML block and paste it there. On other platforms, use an HTML or embed block, or ask whoever manages your site.

Can shoppers add to cart on my site?

Each product links to its page on your site, so shoppers are one click from buying. A developer can also connect your cart with a few lines of code so shoppers add to cart right from the video.

How much does it cost outside Shopify?

Plans for other platforms aren't public yet. Email us and we'll set you up.

Plans and billing

How much does it cost?

On Shopify, every plan renews every 30 days:

  • Starter, $79: 30 processed minutes and 3 active films
  • Growth, $249: 120 processed minutes and 15 active films
  • Scale, $599: 400 processed minutes and unlimited active films
What's a processed minute?

One minute of video that SceneThread looks through for your products. A five-minute film uses five minutes. Economy matching counts half. Watching films is free and unlimited.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every plan starts with 14 days free, including 10 processed minutes.

What if I use more minutes than my plan includes?

Extra minutes cost $1.50 each, up to a monthly limit you approve when you choose your plan: $100, $300 or $750. When you reach it, new films wait until next month or until you upgrade.

Am I charged if a film fails?

No. Failed attempts are free.

What counts as an active film?

A film shoppers can see. Drafts don't count, so you can set a film to draft to make room for another.

How do I change plans or cancel?

Click the plan card at the top of your store page in SceneThread to switch plans. To cancel, uninstall the app. Billing goes through your Shopify bill.

I'm shopping

How do I shop a video?

Press play. The products on screen show up beside the video with their prices. Tap Add to bag to add one, or tap a product to see its page. Use the timeline to jump between looks. On a keyboard, the arrow keys jump between looks and the space bar plays and pauses.

Does SceneThread track me?

No. SceneThread adds no cookies, analytics or ads, and collects no personal data. Your cart and checkout belong to the store you're shopping.

Who do I contact about an order?

The store you bought from. SceneThread only runs the video, so it can't see or change orders.

Privacy

What data does SceneThread use?

Your product list, the videos you upload, and the email you sign in with. It collects nothing about shoppers. The privacy policy has the details.

Are my videos used to train AI?

No. Frames from your video are sent to AI models on Amazon Web Services to find your products, and they aren't used to train those models.

Do I need a password?

No. You sign in through Shopify, or with a one-time link we email you. SceneThread stores no passwords.

How do I delete my data?

Delete any film from its page. Uninstall the app to remove everything for a Shopify store. If you sign in by email, write to us and we'll delete your account.

Developers

Is there an API?

Yes. Send products, start films and make them active from your own systems. The API guide walks through every step with examples.

How do I connect my own cart?

Give the player your prices and an add to cart function. The API guide has a copy-and-paste example.

Something's not working

My film isn't showing on my store
  • Check that the film is Active in SceneThread. Drafts are hidden from shoppers.
  • On Shopify, check that the film block is on the page and the film is chosen in it.
  • Only approved moments show. Approve at least one.
My film failed to process

Click Try again on the film's page. Failed attempts are free. If it fails again, check that you've added products, and that the video is an MP4 or MOV file, or a link that goes straight to the video file.

It matched the wrong product

Open the moment, remove the wrong product, and search for the right one. Or remove the moment completely.

It missed a moment

Pause the video where the moment starts and click Add moment. Then add the product and adjust the start and end times.

A price or product looks wrong on my site

On Shopify, prices and stock come from your store each time the page loads, so fix them in Shopify. On other platforms, products update when we check your feed, or when you upload a new file.
